The next meeting of= the Greater Cincinnati Orchid Society will be on Tuesday, March 4, 2008.  Note that this is the first Tues= day of the month.  The meeting will= be held at the Civic Garden Center on Reading Road across from Bethesda Hospital. The mee= ting is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.  There will be time to socialize from 7:00 to 7:30.

March’s program is by Linda Knab and Ron Miller on “Nomenclature”.&nb= sp; The Beginners Class is at 7:00 by Steve Helbling on “Q&A= on Orchid Culture”  Refre= shments are from Jan Yates and Lois Conyers. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 tick= ets for $5.  Plants are from the= World Orchid Congress.

Thanks to Ken Mettler for the great program last month on “Wild Orchids of Ohio”.

 

Plants are needed for the Civic Garden Center Lobby display.  Plants may be brought to the Cen= ter March 3 by 1 p. m.  About 30 plants are needed.  Plants c= an be left after our show with Larry.  Tear down is 3 p. m. the following Saturday

Fall 2008 Mid America Orchid Congress Show and Meetings

 

The Greater Cincin= nati Orchid Society and the Miami Valley Orchid Society will be hosting the Fa= ll 2008 Mid America Orchid Congress (MAOC) show and meetings.  The show and meetings will take = place over the period of September 5 – 7, 2008 at the King’s Island Resort and Conference Center located in Mason, Ohio.  As this date approaches more information on this event can be found on the MAOC show web page at: http://www.gardener= sutopia.com/MAOC2008fall/

This event features special meetings for different orchid alliances as well as seminars featu= ring three world-renowned speakers.  There will be a charge for attending the seminars, which are sched= uled to be presented on the afternoon of September 6th.  Registration for the seminars as= well as a Saturday night banquet entitles the registrant to a Goody Bag contai= ning an orchid seedling as well as other items donated by local individuals and Industry.  A very unique auc= tion will also be held on Saturday evening in order to raise funds for the MAOC and its conservation efforts.

An orchid show wil= l be one of the featured events starting Saturday (September 6th) and continuing through Sunday (September 7th).  The orchid show will feature sal= es tables where you can purchase a wide assortment of live orchids and orchid supplies from growers found in the U.S. and other countries.  Ribbon judged orchid displays (r= anging from 25 square feet and up) will be presented by different orchid societi= es from all over middle America and Canada as well as displays = by the orchid vendors.  There is no charge for the orchid show.
